Repetition: repeating pattern of sounds of words
Onomatopoeia: words imitate the sounds they describe
Alliteration-repetition of sounds
Imagery-using figurative words to create a vision in the mind’s eye of people, places, things, or ideas.
Metaphor-a figure of speech that makes a comparison or an association between two things that are unrelated.
Rhyme-words that sound similar at the end.
Rhythm- a regularly recurring pattern of words or sounds.
Simile-a figure of speech that uses the word like or as to compare two things that are alike in some way.
Stanza-a group of phrases that form divisions in a poem.
Theme-a recurring idea expressed in the poem.
Verse-writing that has a particular rhythm to it; a specific section of a poem.
Personification: is when you give an animal or object qualities or abilities that only a human can have. This creative literary tool adds interest and fun to poems or stories.
Hyperbole: is an exaggeration used for emphasis or humor.
